CITY COUNCIL COre'lENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Norton thanked the citizens of Santa Ana for providing him <br />with the opportunity to attend the National League of Cities Conference <br />in Atlanta which provided him with an excellent learning experience <br />relative to local government policies and procedures. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pulido re-emphasized the need to continue the City's <br />campaign against the illegal discharge of firearms on New Year's Eve. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan thanked the many volunteers who participated in <br />float construction activities, and support of the recent Times Holiday <br />Parade. She also noted that the viewing audience might contribute to <br />"Eye on Santa Ana," a publication of the City's neighborhood <br />associations, by writing to 1212 S. Parton, Santa Aha, 92707. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Acosta expressed concern that his grandchildren were not <br />permitted to ride in the Times Holiday Parade. He also requested the <br />Council excuse him from the next Council meeting due to a scheduled <br />vacation. <br /> <br />In response to Mayor Pro Tem Acosta's inquiry regarding a constituent <br />that had been cited for a chain link fence in a front yard, Assistant <br />Planning Manager Ken Adams indicated the School District which has many <br />chain link fences is exempt from City fencing regulations. <br /> <br />In response to Mayor Pro Tem Acosta's request, the City Manager indicated <br />that several billboards scheduled for consideration at the December 20, <br />1989 Council meeting would be rescheduled to January 2, 1990, in order to <br />permit Mayor Pro Tem Acosta's participation in the decision. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Acosta urged Councilmembers to carefully read the proposed <br />changes in service station and auto repair development standards. He <br />also wished everyone present a Merry Christmas. <br /> <br />Councilmember May expressed his continued support of the sports arena <br />project. <br /> <br />Councilmember Griset requested that his Council colleagues who had moved <br />to place the City Attorney on administrative leave consider revoking that <br />action. <br /> <br />Mayor Young expressed the City's "Thank You" to the Los Angeles Times for <br />its support of the Holiday Parade. <br /> <br />RECESSED TO CLOSED SESSION - ROOM 147 - 10:22 P.M. <br /> <br />The Clerk of the Council announced the City Council would continue <br />discussion of the Closed Session items announced at the Afternoon <br />Session.
