<br />Vibration is a trembling, quivering, or oscillating motion <br />of the earth. Vibration can be either natural as in the <br />form of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, sea waves, <br />landslides, etc. or man-made as from explosions, the action <br />of heavy machinery, or heavy vehicles such as trucks or <br />trains. Both natural and man-made vibration may be <br />continuous such as from operating machinery, or transient <br />as from an explosion. <br /> <br />The proposed project would not involve any construction <br />activity that would generate vibration impacts. The <br />proposed project would involve conventional construction <br />equipment and would result in less than significant ground <br />borne vibration impacts. <br /> <br />D. A substantial temporary or periodic increase in <br />ambient noise levels in the project vicinity above <br />levels existing without project. <br /> <br />Potentially Significant Unless Mitigation Incorporated <br /> <br />The proposed project has the potential to generate noise <br />impacts during project construction. Construction-related <br />noise impacts would largely be associated with noise from <br />the use of construction equipment and construction <br />activity. <br /> <br />Two types of short-term noise impacts would occur during <br />the construction of the proposed project. First, the <br />transport of workers and import of construction materials <br />to the site would incrementally increase noise levels along <br />local access roads. However, the volume of traffic <br />generated by the construction operations would be minimal <br />to add measurably to the existing noise levels along major <br />access routes. Therefore, even though there could be a <br />relatively high single event noise exposure potentially <br />associated with passing trucks, the increase in ambient <br />noise levels would be less than 1 dBA when averaged over a <br />24-hour period and construction-related impacts associated <br />with vehicle travel would not result in a significant noise <br />impact. <br /> <br />The second type of short-term noise impact is related to <br />noise generated from construction equipment and activities. <br />Construction is performed in discrete steps, each of which <br />has its own mix of equipment, and, consequently, its own <br />noise characteristics.
