NO. 06-008) <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />~-- <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Award a contract to Haaker Equipment Company for the purchase of two <br />street sweepers In the amount of $508,099.43; and increase the <br />aggregate limit for large equipment parts and service for a two-year <br />period in an annual amount not to exceed $60,000. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Fleet Maintenance Division's annual Equipment Replacement Program <br />is included in the City's annual budget and identifies vehicles <br />scheduled for replacement. Funding is monitored through a depreciation <br />schedule established with each department. <br /> <br />The Public Works Agency uses 11 street sweepers to cover over 400 miles <br />of residential streets, 100 miles of primary streets, 50 miles of <br />industrial areas, and 25 miles of alleys. The program also includes <br />sweeping over 81,000 curb miles and the removal of 11,000 cubic yards <br />of gutter litter each year. Due to age, engine hours, and worn <br />condition, two 1999 Athey sweepers have been approved for replacement <br />in the current fiscal year. To comply with Air Quality Management <br />District standards, the new street sweepers will be compressed natural <br />gas units. Specifications for the new sweepers also call for a high <br />right side dump hopper system to accommodate proper disposal directly <br />to the Waste Management trash dumpsters. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on January 18 and 20, <br />bids were solicited.
