SANTA ANA RENAISSANCE SPECIFIC PLAN PROPOSAL
B QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE OF ASSIGNED STAFF AND SUB -CONSULTANTS
About our Public Outreach
Our general approach is based on sustained inquiry and through it, the development
of insight on the workings of your community and the project site itself. Our work
unfolds by design iterations through various design options and crystallizes in com-
monly understood and supported final recommendations and sequences of actions.
The consequences of these actions are often more important than the actions them-
selves, and our planning process seeks to expose them as clearly as possible. More
specifically, with your assistance, we suggest that you identify every person, group or
agency that has a stake, or has some regulatory responsibility in, the project. With all
parties identified, we then interview each of them as appropriate and keep them
involved and informed as to the evolving plan and details for their continuous feed-
back. In this way, no one is surprised about the results and in fact, consensus is
developed. Participants are eager to use the results as they had a direct hand in shap-
ing and informing them. This is in contrast to the prevalent practice of'workshops'
that tend to not keep people involved in as meaningful and sustained ways.
About our Design Process
The design process we propose is inclusive and public, as necessary, for all to
observe and participate. It will be meeting, charrette, and document -based. We are
accomplished in leading large design teams and our management record and expe-
rience underlie the success of our recent Specific Plan work. Our entire team is pre-
pared and united in both the philosophical direction we have established for the proj-
ect and by common experience in projects of prominence and complexity equal to
yours. We are expert listeners, accomplished leaders of public meetings and capable
mediators in helping people with disparate views resolve complex questions simply.
The planning process will be seriously engaging, creative and pleasant.
About our Work Product
Upon identifying the desired outcomes, we express them very clearly and com-
pellingly for those who follow and execute the plan over the short and long-term.
Each piece of our Plans, large or small, is distilled to its most salient details to pro-
vide the reader with the necessary information In a clear, quick and positive manner.
Our Plans not only document and codify the potential appropriately but also serve to
engage and inspire beyond the initial parties in extraordinary ways. Our documents
go far beyond the requirements of State Law and use a large format that is heavily
illustrated while providing relevant and detailed content. Our documents have a very
high proportion of customized graphics and photographs, with all perspectives and
plans being custom to the project. This effort of uniquiress compellingly conveys
both the requirements of the Plan and its ideas and direction in a way that is truly
genuine to your effort. Because of this, users of our Plans refer to them as "...strong
communication and implementation tools that make postive things happen". Such
tools are of profound benefit as all parties involved can rely upon their clairty to
achieve the desired outcomes without further need for 'guidelines' or other such
documents.
Outreach process involves precedent.
tours and subsequent analysis to identify
lessons for applying to the project
Above: Scale analysis for Newhall, CA as compared to
Claremont Village and Old Town Monorovia
Outreach process involves character and
scale analysis ofselected places to inform
the early stages of the process
Above: Scale analysis for Montclair, CA as compared
to Old Town Pasadena
