SOMMERS <br />Mr. Jim Sommers brings over 30 years experience in traffic operations <br />Senior Project Manager <br />design. He has been involved in TOPICS programs for nearly 30 <br />agencies, has designed over 3,000 individual traffic signals and several <br />TRAFFIC DESIGN <br />systems. Other experience includes striping design, preparing <br />construction area traffic control plans, geometric analysis studies, and <br />Education <br />plan checking. Mr. Sommers manages both public and private projects, <br />B.A., Geography <br />frequently working with several jurisdictions to complete the design work. <br />Certificate, Transportation <br />Systems Mgmt <br />Recent projects have involved traffic engineering design for freeway <br />capacity improvements such as ramp access signals, ramp meter signals, <br />Professional Affiliations <br />signing and striping, and trunk line communications installation. He has <br />Institute of Transportation <br />also been in responsible charge of various OTS studies, traffic impact <br />Engineers <br />studies, plan checking, and presentations. <br />Orange County Traffic <br />Engineering Council <br />From 1963 to 1970, Mr. Sommers was an Engineering Assistant with the <br />City of Santa Ana where he was responsible for traffic signal designs and <br />30 Years Experience <br />routine traffic engineering operations. During this period, Mr. Sommers <br />served two years in the U.S. Army, where he supervised an engineering <br />design team while assigned to the 84th Construction Engineering <br />Battalion. <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL & SIGNAL SYSTEM DESIGN <br />Rancho Santa Margarita: Prepared various stages of traffic signal <br />improvements and area -wide interconnect for the new community, <br />involving nearly 40 intersections. <br />City of Anaheim: Prepared signal modification plans for over 200 <br />separate intersections, plan checking and project planning services. <br />City of Anaheim: SR 91/La Palma Avenue Motorist Information System. <br />Prepared plans for fiber-optic communications, closed circuit television <br />surveillance, and special signing for freeway bypass routing. <br />TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION STUDIES EXPERIENCE <br />Recent projects managed by Mr. Sommers are the Katella Avenue and <br />Lincoln Avenue Corridor Studies, funded by the Office of Traffic Safety <br />and administered by the County of Orange Environmental Management <br />Agency. The two projects evaluated nearly 30 miles of arterial roadway <br />and involved nine agencies.
