~ CITY OF SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON TECHNOLOGY Minutes of Regular Meeting March 12, 2003 CALL TO ORDER The meeting convened at 5:51 p.m. in Room 831, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, California ATTENDANCE City Council Committee members present: Claudia Alvarez and Lisa Bist Staff members present: Debra Kurita, Assistant City Manager; Tom Gergen, Information Systems Manager; Mike Lewellen, Manager, Computer Services, SAPD; Pat Healy, Clerk of the C ouneil; M ark Lawrence, Assistant to the City Manager, City Manager's Office; Rob Richard, Library Director; Gerardo Mouet, Assistant Director, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency; Joe Fletcher, City Attorney; Christine Calderon, Treasury Manager, Finance and Management Services Agency AGENDA ITEMS ~ Approval of Minutes for Meeting of December 11, 2002 (Sist, Alvarez) City Telephone System Upgrade Project Tom Gergen, Information Systems Manager, presented an update on the telephone system upgrade project. Highlights of this presentation are as follows: . In the current system, there are 29 sites supported and 2011 instruments in service. . There are a total of 2395 telephone extensions in the system . Service providers include SBC for local and local toll calls; MCI for Long Distance; TELDATA and LOMAC for cabling services; and NEC Business Network Solutions for telephone system maintenance . Effective December, 2002, NEC A MERICA discontinued support for the telephone switch used by the City; this switch has been in use in City Hall since 1986 - manufacture of this switch was discontinued in 1993 . Parts for repair or replacement are no longer available; there is a higher probability of voice service disruption and of a longer duration to repair . Without manufacturer's support, costs of service will escalate at a higher rate . Staff recommends upgrading the current City Hall telephone switch to the NEAX2400 IPX switch ~
