<br />· Telephone service at a number of the City's remote locations has <br />deteriorated <br />· The problematic equipment ranges from 15 years to 20 years in age <br />· Staff recommends upgrade of the switches at the City Yard, Parks <br />Administration, Train Station and Fire Administration <br />· Staff recommends replacement of the key systems with the outdated <br />switches at Fire Station #5, Santa Ana Senior Center, Memorial Center, <br />Jerome Center and EI Salvador Center <br />· Staff recommends the upgrade of the key systems at Fire Stations 1, <br />2,3,6,7,8,9 and 10 <br />· Staff further recommends performance of a test of Voice over IP <br />telephones to determine the viability of this technology in the City <br />environment <br />· The delivery of computer data to and from the 4th, ih and 8th floors of City <br />Hall is impeded due to existing substandard cable infrastructure <br />· Staff recommends the upgrade of the Cable infrastructure on City Hall <br />floors 4,7 and 8 <br />· The plan is to implement the recommendations in phases; total estimated <br />hardware and cable cost is $994,000 <br /> <br />Logan Computer Center Update <br /> <br />...., <br /> <br />Gerardo Mouet, Assistant Director, Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Agency, gave an update on the Logan Computer Center. He reported that the ."J <br />center is 0 pen Monday through Friday from noon to 6:00 p.m.; Family PRIDE <br />meets once a month on Friday evenings. He noted that there are four part-time <br />employees on site and that the primary users are stay home parents and youth <br />not in school due to off school cycle; additionally, after school youth attend 2:30 <br />p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This facility is a six workstation computer lab and has new <br />desktops and one printer. The next steps for computer center development <br />include: a DSL connection; firewall, antivirus and deep freeze to be installed; <br />networking; homework assistance software and homework assistance classes. <br /> <br />Following Mr. Mouel's presentation, Councilmember Bist noted that many of the <br />residents in the Logan a rea had commented that there have been significant <br />improvements in the neighborhood, however it would be beneficial if the <br />Computer Center would offer more adult classes particularly in the evening. Mr. <br />Mouet commented that he will work with staff from the Public Library to look at <br />courses that may be available. <br /> <br />Technology Grant Update <br /> <br />Gerardo Mouet reported that the City received a grant award for a technology <br />center at Memorial Park, however the grant request was for $1.2 million in <br />program costs and $2.5 million for facility costs. The grant award was only for <br />$250,000 and is not sufficient to construct facilities at Memorial Park. Staff will ...., <br />
