<br />"" <br /> <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />EDUCATION AND YOUTH PROGRAM <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />September 4, 2003 <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />The meeting was convened at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall, Room 831. <br /> <br />The following Council Members were present: <br /> <br />Alberta Christy <br />Mike Garcia <br /> <br />Staffs present were: Gerardo Mouet, Assistant Director, PRCSA <br />Ron Ono, Park Planning/Design Mgr., PRCSA <br />Lorraine Lazarine McCarty, Community Services Mgr., PRCSA <br />Dolores Ramos, Management Aide, PRCSA <br /> <br />Guest were: David Chapel, Vice Chair, Board of Recreation and Parks <br />David Chapel, Jr., Youth Commissioner <br />Rosa Noyola, Youth Commissioner <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />ACTION ITEM: Minutes of July 3, 2003 meeting were approved as submitted. <br /> <br />2. UPDATE ON CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP <br />The corporate sponsorship program is designed to seek sponsorship in four areas: 1) <br />Community Affairs-Special Events, 2) Youth and Community Services, 3) Park Services and <br />4) Adelphia Partnership for documentary productions. <br /> <br />A committee composed of three members ofthe Board of Parks and Recreation, as well as <br />close support from the Friends of Parks and Recreation has developed key steps in <br />approaching corporations for sponsorship. It is important that the donor senses the <br />professionalism of the agency, the importance and/or need of the contribution, and a <br />confidence level that the donation will be spent wisely on the selected program. The <br />committee will continue to meet to refine the program. <br />ACTION ITEM: Check on the possibility of pursuing funding under Philip Morris and/or <br />Altria. <br /> <br />3. YOUTH EXPO REPORT <br />Youth Expo 04 is scheduled for October 2004. The change in date is to better coordinate <br />with the college and universities recruiting season. Next years event slogan will be "Keep it <br />Clean Kids-Inspiring Together" or (KICK IT) campaign aimed at eliminating blight and <br />graffiti in the city. The committee requested Waste Management Companies also be <br />involved and the schools be contacted, since students are required to provide community <br /> <br />"" <br />
