<br />'-' <br /> <br />services as part of their educational experience. Due to the construction of the Hector <br />Godinez High School at Centennial Park, staff will be looking for a new location to hold the <br />event. <br />ACTION ITEM: <br />I) Involve the Culinary Art schools to provide demonstrations at the event. <br />2) Include classic cars and motorcycles display and demonstration back to the event. <br />3) Include CHOC vans for the Safety Fair. <br />4) Include karate demonstrations at the event. <br /> <br />4. KIDS DAY EVENT <br />Approximately 1,500 participants attended the event at Santa Ana Stadium. The Fluor <br />Corporation donated 300 student backpacks filled with school supplies to needy kids in the <br />4th and 5th grade. The Boys and Girls Club and PRCSA staff selected the 4th and 5th graders <br />that received backpacks. Tbe owners of Gonzales Northgate Market provided picnic lunches <br />for every one at the event. One of the exciting highlights at the event was the Salsa Tasting <br />Contest. Mrs. Teresa Leal prepared the winning homemade salsa. Tbe winning salsa will be <br />served at Taqueria Guadalajara restaurant for one year. During the event a raffle was also <br />held for a new bicycle. <br /> <br />The Boys and Girls Club anticipates the planning for the 2004 Kids Day Event will begin in <br />the winter of next year. <br /> <br />5. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />'-' · Rosie Noyola indicated the Youth Commission is excited about the "Kick-it" <br />Program. She personally wants to be involved with a recycling program at school. <br />· David Chapel indicated that the Youth Expo committee needs to communicate with <br />DCI and the Orange County High School ofthe Arts to participate in the event. <br /> <br />6. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS <br />· Council member Christy indicated Youth Expo needs more exposure and visibility in <br />the community. The committee needs to recruit youth to get involved and give back <br />to the community. <br />· Council member Garcia indicated that the Youth Expo committee needs to seek <br />grants to get people involved and active in the inner city. <br /> <br />7. ITEMS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS: <br />At the next meeting the committee requested the following two items to be presented. <br />. Park Naturalist Program. <br />. Children's Winter Holiday Event. <br />The committee requested the following three items to be presented at a future meeting. <br />. Black History Event <br />. McFadden Technology Center <br />.
