The next steps in reviewing City imaging projects include: pursuit of finance <br />business functions for the next project; definition of requirements and scope, <br />amendment of vendor agreement, and implementation <br /> <br />Red Light Cameras Update <br /> <br />Sergeant Kevin Brown presented an update on the status of red light camera <br />installation in the City. He noted that from June, 2003 to the present, photos <br />have been taken of 4,000 violators. Of these only 10 violations have been "lost" <br />due to delays. From the period 8/21/03 to 9/25/03, 214 cases have gone to <br />court: Of these cases: 35% of the violators did not appear in court, 31% <br />appeared in court and received a fine, 15% pled guilty, and 10% sent in check in <br />lieu of appearing in court. Sergeant Brown further reported that the cameras are <br />currently at four intersections (five approaches). The Court is working very <br />closely with the Police Department and to date the City has been very <br />successful. Review of the violations has revealed that the vast majority of <br />offenders do not live in Santa Ana. In the near future cameras will be installed at <br />two more intersections: Fairview/Edinger and 1st and Grand. There are five more <br />intersections under consideration. <br /> <br />Wireless Citation Devices Update <br /> <br />Sergeant Brown also gave a brief update on the wireless citation devices <br />purchased through a grant that expires in December. He noted that to date there <br />have been 4, 400 electronic citations issued. He reported that there were a few <br />software problems encountered, but the devices have been successful. The <br />Department is looking at permit parking to develop a better tracking system for <br />guest passes. <br /> <br />Seniors Teaching Seniors Update <br /> <br />Gerardo Mouet, Assistant Director, Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Agency reported that the City makes available 24 computers for use by Seniors <br />at Southwest and Santa Ana Senior Centers. Following is a description of the <br />classes that are currently offered at the two centers. <br /> <br />Southwest Senior Center (Computer Center is located at Corbin) <br />. There are 14 computers; five of these are relatively new <br />. Most of the computers are the property of Santa Ana College <br />. Computers are connected to the Internet <br />. Classes take place from 9:00 a.m. to Noon, Mondays through <br />Thursdays <br />. Each class has 20 students; courses offered include Introduction to <br />Computers, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced <br />
