<br />Portal - The principal entry of a structure. <br /> <br />Porte Cochere - Carriage porch large enough to let a vehicle pass through. <br /> <br />Portico - A large porch, usually with a pedimented roof supported by columns. <br /> <br />Primary Elevation - The particular fac;:ade of a building which faces a street to which the <br />address of a building pertains. <br /> <br />Sash - The part of the window frame in which the glass is set. <br /> <br />Section - A representation of a building, divided into two parts by a vertical plane so as to <br />exhibit the construction of the building. <br /> <br />Setback - The minimum horizontal distance between the lot or property line and the nearest <br />front, side, or rear line of a building (as the case may be), including terraces or any covered <br />projection thereof, excluding steps. <br />Shake - Split wood shingles. <br /> <br />Siding - The finish covering on the exterior of a frame building (with the exception of masonry). <br />The term cladding is often used to describe any exterior wall covering, including masonry. <br /> <br />Sill - The exterior horizontal member on which a window frame rests. <br /> <br />Soffit - The finished underside of an eave. <br /> <br />Stained Glass Window - Glass colored with a transparent stain, especially, silver stain, that is <br />applied to the surface and incorporated into it by heat. <br /> <br />Stucco - An exterior finish, usually textured, composed of portland cement, lime, and sand, <br />which are mixed with water. <br /> <br />Transom - The horizontal division or crossbar in a window.
