Councilmember Acosta: <br /> <br />requested the Mayor as the City's representative to the Metropolitan Water <br />District to assist in providing water conservation program materials and <br />kits to Hispanic consumers at local markets; <br /> <br />cited a lack of City enforcement regarding the Pushcart Vendor <br />Ordinance; <br /> <br />asked if the Housing Division might assist the Meza family with any <br />housing needs;. <br /> <br />requested the Police Chief investigate success by other cities in using <br />rewards to help get leads; <br /> <br />reported he had contacted the gang members who had recently agreed to a <br />truce and indicated he would be scheduling a round table discussion with <br />those gang members to which any members of the community would be <br />welcome; <br /> <br />also reported he had recently attended an opening of Little Saigon Village <br />in Westminster, and forwarded information to the Community <br />Development Agency Executive Director for the purpose of developing a <br />similar project in Santa Ana; and <br /> <br />observed that he had noticed an increase in beer drinking in City parks <br />and encouraged increased enforcement by the Park Rangers. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan expressed concern regarding delayed response to her complaints <br />regarding graffiti removal in her neighborhood. The Public Works Agency Executive <br />Director indicated he would investigate. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tern Pulido requested a status report on the Court Referral Program. He also <br />noted that the recent (Meza) killing and other gang activities in the City suggested that <br />different tactics and more and better strategies must be developed to combat gang activities. <br /> <br />Councilmember Richardson expressed his personal resolve to face the issues and challenged <br />the community to get involved by joining him at 10:00 a.m. on May 2, 1992 at the <br />intersection of Myrtle and Patton Streets to walk Myrtle Street in an effort "to take back the <br />neighborhood." <br /> <br />Councilmember Griset commended the Police Department for its murder arrest-conviction <br />rate, noting that 13 of the 19 murder suspects arrested in 1991 had been convicted and were <br />now in prison.
