<br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />PARK DEVELOPMENT, RECREATION PROGRAMS <br />& EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />March 1, 2005 <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />The meeting was convened at 5 :55 p.m. in the City Hall, Room 831. <br />The following Council Members were present: Jose Solorio <br />Mike Garcia <br />Claudia Alvarez (arrived 6:15pm) <br /> <br />Staffs present were: Gerardo Mouet, Exec. Director PRCSA <br />Mike Vigliotta, Deputy City Attorney <br />Ron Qno, Park Administrative Services Manager, PRCSA <br />Mike Lopez, Park Superintendent <br />Lorraine Lazarine-McCarty, Community Services Manager <br />Suzi Furjanic, Associate Park Planner <br /> <br />Guest present: Pedro Magallon (SA YSA) <br /> <br />1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />ACTION ITEM: Minutes of January 4, 2005, meeting were approved as submitted. <br /> <br />2. YOUTH SOCCER PLAYER DEVELOPMENT <br />Staff presented a proposal to enter into an agreement with a non-profit organization, directed <br />by David Zimmerman, to develop a Youth Soccer Player Development Program in Santa <br />Ana. Talented Santa Ana youth soccer players, girls and boys will compete in the Santa Ana <br />Soccer Academy, partly sponsored by the non-profit organization. Ninety-five percent of the <br />participants will be from Santa Ana. The average cost for a non-sponsored youth player to <br />participate is approximately $2,000 per season. <br /> <br />The program will include training/coaching, equipment, and use of Santa Ana Soccer fields, <br />along with an educational component to insure youth participants develop educational <br />success to enter college. An advisory board will be set-up to secure sponsorship dollars or in- <br />kind donations for the program. <br /> <br />Pedro Magallon (SA YSA) expressed interest in the program.
