<br />3. ATHLETIC FIELD RESERVATION UPDATE <br />Staff presented an update of the Athletic Reservation System developed by Parks, Recreation <br />and Community Services Agency. The Athletic Field Reservation System was developed to <br />ensure residents are able to enjoy green athletic fields, free of conflicts and/or other <br />distractions. Forty-one sports organizations were required to submit their rosters to the city <br />by March I, 2005, in order to obtain permits for use of Santa Ana Athletic fields. The sports <br />organizations included youth and adult soccer leagues, baseball leagues, fast pitch softball <br />and youth football. As of this date, approximately 80 percent organizations have complied. <br /> <br />4. PROGRAM/CAPITAL GRANT UPDATE <br />Staff presented a list of park improvement grants/projects that were approved this fiscal year <br />along with a list of projects in which grant applications were submitted and are pending <br />review by the organization. The majority of the projects funded and implemented by the <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency totally rely on grant assistance and other <br />matching funds. Over $4.5 million in projects is currently being requested for grant <br />assistance that is pending review by the State or Foundations. <br />ACTION ITEM: Requested update on Capital unfunded projects. <br /> <br />5. MOTHER'S DAY EVENT <br />The fourth annual Mother's Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2005; from 5 <br />to 9 p.m. at the Santa Ana Stadium. TilIamook Cheese will be sponsoring the event. Bonilla <br />Promotions is also interested in being part of the event planning and is proposing to bring <br />well-known Hispanic entertainment to the event, as well as coordinating the food and beer <br />sales at the event. Bonilla Promotions expressed interest in paying for 8,000 flyers for the <br />event. <br /> <br />6. SANTA ANA RIVER TASK FORCE UPDATE <br />On November 15, 2004, the City Council approved the formation of a Santa Ana River Task <br />Force to study the possibility of restoring the natural habitat environment and providing <br />recreational opportunities in and/or adjacent to the river. Staff sent out letters of interest, <br />along with applications to various environmental organizations, including neighborhood <br />associations adjacent to the river. As of March 151 a total of 20 applications were received for <br />the Park Development, Recreation Programs and Education Partnership Council to review. <br />ACTION ITEM: Recommend the list of applicants be forwarded to the City Council for <br />review and approval. <br /> <br />7. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />. Pedro Magallon expressed interest in being included in the planning process for the <br />Youth Soccer Player Development Program. <br /> <br />8. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS <br />.
