We did this
because we have had great success with setting specific traffic
control preparation guidelines in the project specifications.
This approach actually reduces the City's liability by nor
having a direct hand the traffic control plan preparation. Also,
when the contractor prepares the traffic control plans they
are guaranteed to match his proposed equipment, phasing
and operations exactly. The traffic control guidelines in the
project specifications will include detailed requirements
that communicate all of the important concerns and access
requirements that need co be addressed, some of which are
listed hereafter.

Photo 9 - l1inimizing School Impacts: The existing Martin
Luther King Jr. Elementary School, just north of McFadden
Avenue will be required to have its fronting fence line
relocated deeper into their property. We will make sure that
this work is perlormed either in stages and/or when school in
not in session so as to minimize impacts and maximize safety.

.
,

A
;/~d.1,)C.3tlon 1s( ..c,
':::">,'~..',.....,....'..,,'l'
~.. ~:~ -;.~ ...~
.-- .....

SOfie specific concerns that will require attention to minimize public inconvenience, either in the project
specifications, and on the traffic control plans if City staff so chooses, are as follows:

. Addressing continuous access to business driveways and when possible scheduling fronting repair work during
off-peak business hours (see Photo 6)

. Maintaining emergency access at all times (existing fire station at Myrtle & Raitt)

. Maintaining adequate travel lanes during construction

. Minimizing impacts to local schools (see Photo 9)

. Establishing clear allowable hours of work and lane closures

. Maintaining local bike and pedestrian traffic

. Maintaining continuous bus stop through alternate temporary stop locations (see Photo 6)

Landscape & Irrigation Design Elements

Harris' landscape architect sub-consultant Kobata Associates will perform all of the tequired landscape and
irrigation design elements and is already familiar with all of the required planting and irrigation materials since he
has prepared the same documents for the Bristol Street Widening from Pine Street to Third Street. The landscape
and irrigation design will primarily consist of the following:

. Planted raised medians (six plan view only sheets for planting and four plan view only sheets for irrigation, all
at I" = 20' scale showing the installation of the 14' wide planted raised medians, similar to Bristol Street south
of McFadden, see Photo 2, with breaks at only three intersections, namely at Bishop Street, Richland Avenue /
Tolliver Street and McFadden, and will extend 300' north of Pine Street to ensure proper transitions and joins
with the previous widening project

III I Harris & Associates.

Bristol Corridor Widening - Phase I
Page-7-
