Task No. 1.6 — Design Survey
For smaller projects, Tetra Tech is proposing to use existing street, water/sewer/storm drain plans, as
well as tract maps and water/sewer atlas maps, to prepare the base maps. Locations of driveways,
landscape/hardscape, etc. will be added by using aerial photographs of the project area. For larger
projects, Tetra Tech will obtain aerial mapping and topography for the project limits.
No matter how the base map is produced, Tetra Tech will field verify all existing water valves, water
Y" meters, fire hydrants and other appurtenances. In addition, Tetra Tech will "dip" all manholes, catch
"' basins and vaults in order to obtain a good understanding of any vertical conflicts for the new design.
For water main replacement projects, Tetra Tech typically designs the new main off of curb and not
centerline of the street. Street centerline stations are provided for overall control but actual pipeline
design is off of curb face. However, for projects with profiles, Tetra Tech will establish horizontal and
vertical control based on center -line of the street.
Task No. 1.7 — Prepare Base Maps
Tetra Tech will perform a job walk after the preparation of the base map to identify conflicts and
inconsistencies.
Task No. 1.9 — Prepare Preliminary Plans
At the preliminary plan stage, Tetra Tech recommends the plans be submitted to the City Fire
Department to review locations of the fire hydrants and to move as necessary to establish coverage
areas as well as to confirm adequacy of each hydrant location (relative to landscape/hardscape
improvements). In addition, at this stage, Tetra Tech feels it is important to discuss the construction
sequencing in order to minimize the shut -down period for the homeowners, as well as provide water
sources to pressure test the new water main.
Tetra Tech has assumed that profiles may be required for new water mains equal to or greater than 12-
inches in diameter or in arterial streets. Profiles will be required for all sewer main designs.
Traffic control plans will be considered as additional work and only be included as part of an estimate
when directed by the City. Traffic control plans will be prepared using "WATCH" manual and City of
Santa Ana standard drawings.
SAMPLE PROJECT TECHNICAL WORK PLAN
Based on the sample project description included within Exhibit "A" of the RFP, we envision the
following plan sheets:
• Title Sheet
• Second Sheet including General Notes, etc.
• Rene Drive Plan Sheet (2 plan strips)
• San Lorenzo Avenue Plan Sheet (2 plan $trips)
CITY OF SANTA ANA
TETRA TECH, INC.
On -Call Engineeringfor YYater and Sewer Main Improvements
