LounCB <br />Thl' Youth Sl'rvicl' Provider Network IRFP 2U05/2006 <br />Orangl' Coun~ Children's Therapeunil' Arts Center <br /> <br />PROPOSAL NARRATIVE <br /> <br />Abolllt the Program <br /> <br />ExcC'.utivl' Summary <br />TIle Orange county Children's Therapeutic /vts Center (OCCTAC) will recruit and serve a total of 50 <br />(25) lln.School,and (25) Out-of-School Santa Ana at-risk and diSiabled youth between the ages of 14-18 <br />yrs. eligible to qualify for WIA Title 1 B YOUtll services. OCCTO\C will collaborate with the Santa Ana <br />Unified School District and the County of Orange to recruit and rrefer potential WIA participants to the <br />San12 Ana W/O/R!K Center for eligibility dete;mination through, the offices of Pupil Services, Student <br />DisciJ,piine Services, and the Pupil Placement Committee froID referrals to alternative schools and/or <br />programs. OCCT AC will address the following WIA elements s;tated on page 6 of the proposal <br />applli:;ation: 1,3,4,6, and 8. WIA participants will engage in aruintegrated program that offers <br />students a strong artistic, literacy, and technology program thart will empower youth by enhancing <br />their self-esteem, teach responsibility, technical and mentoring: skills, and accelerate their learning. <br />Students will train 3 days per week during after-school hours, amdlor weekends. two hours per day <br />durilf"g a period of one year. WIA participants will receive a miillimum of 1 hr. of basic skills <br />(structured one-one one literacy tutoring and small group instruc:llion) each day they attend the <br />progDlID. and I hour of artistic andlor technology training. After ca period of 6 months of training, all <br />VilA participants will be provided an opportunity to transition inrto a "mentoringjob". OCCTAC will <br />train :and supervise WIA participants into paidlunpaid positions (Contingent upon participants' literacy <br />develtopment, and performance levels as stated in ilieir individual! educational plans. <br /> <br />Which WIA population will the program recruit and ser\e~ <br />OCCTAC will recruit and serve In-School and Out-of-School Samta Ana at-risk and disabled youth <br />between the ages of 14-18 yrs., from limited educational and firuuncial resources, history of academic <br />probltems, suspended or expelled, and living in "high risk" areas in Santa Ana; as well.as other <br />eligibility criteria to qualify for \VIA Title I B youth services. <br /> <br />Indicate how many participants to be served <br />Our progran1 proposes to serve approximately 50 participants: T'wenty-five Santa Ana Unified School <br />District (SAUSD) students enrolled in Alternative School piogranns, and twenty-five Santa Ana <br />students that have been expulsed from the district andlor parents have requested Altemative County <br />programs. <br /> <br />Desc::-ibe your recruitment plan. <br />OCCTAC will collaborate with the Santa Ana L'nitled School D,istrict and the County of Orange to <br />recrw]\ and refer potential WIA participants to the Santa Ana W I(;)IR!K Center for eligibility <br />dete:=ination. The <br />recruiitment process will also include providing information (,-ia hrochures. fivers) to school <br />admz:."istrators. parents, and prospective students in the commul1lity orSanta Ana to encourage <br />parndpation in our afier-school program. <br />
