it to Marcia Lynne, who will then assess the situation and provide guidance in terms of
referral to other appropriate counseling, academic/career or social service programs.

Anthony and the teachers will share in-intake assessment responsibilities. The teachers
will administer original T ABE test Anthony will interview prospectiye youth to ensure
that they meet all WIA requirements for program entry.

Follow-up:

We will follow-up with students by encouraging continued activity in the boxing club.
This is not a difficult task. The only attrition we have experienced thus far is due to
transient nature of the community. Nonetheless, we plan to incorporate peer mentoring
for our seasoned boxing club mentors. This should serve as additional incentive to
continue with the boxing program. Mr. Serrano will contact and periodically meet with
youth who have dropped out of the program. At this time he will provide individual
counseling to encourage youth to continue to seek a higher education. He will use this
time to assess whether the youth is experiencing obstacles to meeting life goal for higher
education. He will then refer student to appropriate assistance (e.g., drug/alcohol rehab,
after-school tutoring or mentoring). He will also refer to WIA for necessary counseling,
if deemed appropriate.

Continues Improvement:

We intend to require that all members of the boxing team maintain a 3.0 GP A in order to
go to tournaments. We intend to offer one-hour tutoring service prior to boxing activity
to ensure that WIA participants maintain appropriate GP A and increase in literacy and
numeracy scores. Therefore, credentialed or student teacher will tutor these youth in
academic work and literacy and numeracy aptitude.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ORANGE COUNTY YOUTH COMMISSION

Mission Statement:

"The Orange County Youth Commission will bring hope and purpose to children and
youth in the inner city by developing a partnership among the business/private sector and
the faith community to provide wholesome activities that inspire, educate, train, and
transform lives."

Orange County Youth Commission:

The goal of OCYC is to develop after-school programs that effectively redirect "at-risk"
inner city youth towards positive academic and career choices. "At -risk" youth, as
defined above, tend to display behaviors that catapult them into a life cycle of inadequate
academic and/or job performance, that result in poverty and/or adult criminality. Our
programs are designed to mitigate negative life choices and enhance positive life choices

5
