Councilmember Franklin: <br /> <br />reported he had toured the Alona Park/Riverview West area with Recreation <br />and Community Services Executive Director Cleve Williams and requested <br />the Council be provided with an update on plans for Park grant funds; <br /> <br />- complimented the Community Preservation and Building Divisions on their <br /> excellent "Keep It Safe, Keep It Beautiful" brochure and suggested interested <br /> persons call City Hall to request copies; <br /> <br />- informed the audience that Santa Ana responds on a 24-hour basis to anonymous <br /> complaints regarding excessive noise from loud radios and large social gatherings, <br /> and encouraged residents to call the Police Department for service if needed; <br /> <br />- announced the Santa Ana Unified School District was considering possible <br /> names for the new space saver school at 17th and Bristol and invited the public <br /> to send suggestions to the District's Public Information Office at 1601 Chestnut <br /> or call (714) 558-5555; and <br /> <br />- requested a staffpresentation on Recreation & Community Services Fall '97 <br /> programs and events be provided at a future Council meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido: <br /> <br />- indicated his reservations regarding a proposal to locate an Immigration and <br /> Naturalization Services office at Civic Center and Flower were in response to <br /> concerns raised by the neighborhood adjacent to the proposed location; <br /> <br />- reported Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and Senator Barbara Boxer <br /> were assisting the City to secure funding for the Discovery Science Center <br /> and that $500,000 in Federal funds had been earmarked for the project; <br /> <br />requested Public Works staffmeet with Art Delgado to evaluate Delgado's <br />graffiti removal proposal and report back to Council; <br /> <br />- asked staff to consider language from a City of Los Angeles truancy law in <br /> evaluating the feasibility of a truancy ordinance for Santa Ana; <br /> <br />- suggested the City advocate for state legislation against playing "boom boxes" <br /> (stereo sound equipment) at excessively loud levels; and <br /> <br />- invited the public to attend the Santora Building anniversary celebration <br />on July 26, 1997 and to call City Hall for the schedule of art opening events. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />222 JULY 21, 1997 <br /> <br /> <br />
