Councilmember Lutz: <br /> <br />commented on the high level ofvolunteerism in Santa Ana as demonstrated by <br />the fire pumper restoration project and recent large number of volunteers <br />recognized at the Recreation, Parks and Community Services banquet; <br />reported the historic Howe-Waffle House was undergoing renovation and <br />needed volunteers to assist with sprinkler system installation (call project <br />coordinator Tim Rush at 547-6558, ext. 2); and <br />informed the audience that former Councilmember Lisa Mills had been chosen as <br />a donor for a leukemia patient and expressed hope for a positive medical <br />outcome. <br /> <br />Councilmember Brett Franklin: <br /> <br />asked staff'to investigate the possibility of restricting train whistle blowing in <br />residential neighborhoods (Councihnember Moreno suggest Franklin research <br />previous Council actions on this subject); <br />suggested staff contact the City of Santa Monica for information regarding the <br />use of"lost spaces" (remnant parcels, parking lots) for recreation and park <br />activities <br />expressed his thanks to the Chamber of Commerce particularly President <br />Michael Metzler for the Chamber's support of education in Santa Ana; <br />reported his attendance at the Petsmart grand opening at 17th Street and Tustin <br />and asked that Store Director Larry Cook be invited to a future Council meeting <br />to tell the Council about Petsmart's animal adoption program; and <br />urged residents to continue volunteering for historic preservation projects such <br />as the fire pumper renovation. <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido: <br /> <br />thanked the Police Department for assistance with a "problem home" in <br />Morrison Park; <br />reported he had recently met with Pacific Care representatives Alan Hoops and <br />Nick Franklin and welcomed the 800-employee corporation to Santa Ana; <br />suggested anyone interested in attending the Very Special Arts gallery opening <br />contact City Hall regarding invitations; and <br />requested staff investigate how many companies were headquartered in Santa <br />Ana and also contact Fidelity National Title Company about relocating to the <br />City. <br /> <br />RECESSED TO CLOSED SESSION - ROOM 147 - 7:53 P.M. <br /> <br />The Brown Act permits the City Council to discuss certain matters without members of the public <br />present, provided the items to be discussed are posted 72 hours prior to the City Council meeting <br />The following items were received for the September 2, 1997 Council meeting: <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 266 SEPTEMBER 2, 1997 <br /> <br /> <br />
