<br />b. It is not practical to assign the duties of the vacant position to any other <br />employee or employees in the same or higher classification. <br /> <br />4. The City Manager or his designee must give written approval of all Temporary <br />Upgrade Assignments involving an increase in pay for the appointee. <br /> <br />B. Eligibilitv. <br /> <br />I. With the exception of those described in paragraph 3 below, regular, Part Time <br />Civil Service employees shall receive Temporary Upgrade Assignment Pay if the <br />following criteria are met: <br /> <br />a. The work assumed encompasses the majority of the typical duties and <br />responsibilities of the vacated position. <br /> <br />b. Employees must serve ten (10) consecutive working days of eight (8) hours <br />each, or eight (8) consecutive working days of ten (10) hours each for <br />employees working an alternative work schedule, in an acting capacity to <br />qualify for assignment pay. A permitted absence of two (2) days or less <br />during such ten (10) day period shall not be deemed to void such consecutive <br />service; however, the days of absence shall not be counted in the <br />computation of such ten (10) day requirement. <br /> <br />c. In computing qualifying service rendered, only full days of actual duty shall <br />be included, and partial days shall not be combined to make full days unless <br />they are normally granted holiday hours. Normally granted holidays will be <br />included in computing actual duty days. <br /> <br />2. Whenever practicable, the appointing authority shall rotate Temporary Upgrade <br />Assignments among all qualified employees. <br /> <br />3. Employees in the following categories shall not be assigned to Temporary <br />Upgrade work unless specifically authorized by the City Manager: <br /> <br />a. Non-permanent employees (Probationary, Part-time, Seasonal, etc.). <br /> <br />b. Employees performing work above their regular class in a training capacity. <br /> <br />c. Part Time Civil Service employees. <br /> <br />C. Pavment. <br /> <br />]. On the eleventh (II th) consecutive working day an employee has been serving in a <br />Temporary Upgrade Assignment, and for each additional consecutive working <br />day the employee so serves, he or she shall receive the beginning rate (Step <br />"AA") assigned to the higher classification or the lowest rate in that range which <br />is at least ten (10) salary rate ranges (5%) higher than the current base salary rate <br />he or she normally receives, whichever is greater. <br /> <br />]4 <br />
