CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />noted the Santa Ana Scholarship Fund had topped a $1 million and asked the City <br />Manager to arrange an appropriate celebration; and <br />urged the Council to discontinue holding study sessions outside the Council Chambers <br />and taking formal actions at such sessions, particularly approval of appointments to <br />Ward I positions on the City's boards and commissions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Espinoza recommended "Two Badges," a biography authored by Santa Ana <br />Police Officer Mona Ruiz, as excellent reading, and after relating the details of a recent cruising <br />episode he had witnessed, commended the Police Chief and Police Department on effective and <br />timely enforcement against cruising. <br /> <br />Councilmember Richardson: <br /> <br />· echoed Councilmember Espinoza's comments regarding Mona Ruiz, noting she was a <br /> credit to the Police Department; <br />· commented that over a three-year period, the City had contributed $700,000 to the <br /> Santa Ana Scholarship Fund and noted that while the money might have been used for <br /> infrastructure improvements, the Council had made a value judgement to invest in <br /> Santa Ana's youth; and <br />· reminded the listening audience of the opportunity to participate in the upcoming <br /> "Ride the Coast" and "Mariachi Canta in Santa Ana." <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan: <br /> <br />· commended Brock Homes for its decision to construct an "upscale" residential <br /> development of 72 homes on the 2828 N. Bristol site; <br />· reported Ann Andres, an local attorney and long-term Santa Ana resident, had been <br /> showcased in a recent Orant~e County Business Journal article for venturing a <br /> combined art gallery and coffee house (The Green Parrot) on N. Main Street; and <br />· noted City programs such as Project P.R.1D.E. benefited the community as well as <br /> infrastructure improvements. <br /> <br />Councilmember Lutz: <br /> <br />· reported Tran Nguyen, president and owner of Little Saigon TV in Santa Ana had <br /> been featured in the same Orange County Business Journal article as Ann Andres; <br />· indicated the Imagination Celebration starts this week and enumerated several events <br /> such as the Very Special Arts California gallery exhibit, the "Arts on the Lawn" show <br /> at Santa Ana High School, and the jazz festival at the Santa Ana Zoo that would occur <br /> during the Celebration; and <br />· requested the upcoming Orange County Art & Jazz Festival be promoted at the next <br /> Council meeting. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 131 MAY 4, 1998 <br /> <br /> <br />
