Tierra de las Pampas <br />September 1, 2006 <br />Page 6 <br />Irrigation Consultant - -Toby Mertens <br />Toby Mertens is an irrigation consultant with over 25 years experience designing irrigation systems <br />in southern California and is a certified irrigation auditor. He prepared the irrigation plans for many <br />of my projects including Bluebird Park and Alta Laguna Park for the City of Laguna Beach. <br />Botanical Consulting- -Kathy Musial and Dr. Philip Rundel <br />Kathy Musial is currently the Curator of Living Collections at the Huntington. Botanical. Gardens. <br />She will consult regarding the appropriate plants to represent the Pampas environment, as well as <br />contribute her expertise regarding public garden management issues. <br />Dr. Philip W. Runde] is professor of Biology, University of California, Los Angeles. He has worked <br />extensively in southern South America over the past 35 years, conducting research projects in a <br />variety of of areas including the Pampas region and adjacent Patagonian steppe. His research work <br />focuses on the ecology of plant communities and thus he is familiar with the flora and landforms of <br />the Pampas region. This work has included ecological studies on plant- environment interactions in <br />areas of the pampas with existing populations of guanacos and rheas, and has given him the oppor- <br />tunity to assemble many photographs of these animals in. their native habitat. He maintains active <br />research collaborations with a number of groups of Argentine and Chilean ecologists. Among many <br />other publications on the ecology of South American ecosystems, he is the lead author on a chapter <br />on Arid and Seini -Arid Ecosystems of South America in a major book to be pulished later this year by <br />Oxford University Press in England. <br />
