Tierra de las Pampas September 1, 2006 Page 6 Irrigation Consultant - -Toby Mertens Toby Mertens is an irrigation consultant with over 25 years experience designing irrigation systems in southern California and is a certified irrigation auditor. He prepared the irrigation plans for many of my projects including Bluebird Park and Alta Laguna Park for the City of Laguna Beach. Botanical Consulting- -Kathy Musial and Dr. Philip Rundel Kathy Musial is currently the Curator of Living Collections at the Huntington. Botanical. Gardens. She will consult regarding the appropriate plants to represent the Pampas environment, as well as contribute her expertise regarding public garden management issues. Dr. Philip W. Runde] is professor of Biology, University of California, Los Angeles. He has worked extensively in southern South America over the past 35 years, conducting research projects in a variety of of areas including the Pampas region and adjacent Patagonian steppe. His research work focuses on the ecology of plant communities and thus he is familiar with the flora and landforms of the Pampas region. This work has included ecological studies on plant- environment interactions in areas of the pampas with existing populations of guanacos and rheas, and has given him the oppor- tunity to assemble many photographs of these animals in. their native habitat. He maintains active research collaborations with a number of groups of Argentine and Chilean ecologists. Among many other publications on the ecology of South American ecosystems, he is the lead author on a chapter on Arid and Seini -Arid Ecosystems of South America in a major book to be pulished later this year by Oxford University Press in England.
