COMMENTS <br />Wilson School Principal Dr. Devera Heard and teacher Diane LeDonne expressed support <br />for the Reading City campaign and offered several suggestions on how to promote <br />reading. The Mayor expressed his intention to read to children at the local schools, and <br />suggested Heard and LeDonne get involved in the Reading Committee. <br />90.B. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Mayor Pulido acknowledged Chris Leo of Assemblymember Correa's staff and <br />Charlotte Finkley from State Senator Dunn's staff and encouraged their continued <br />attendance at Santa Ana Council meetings. <br />Councilmember Moreno: <br />• reported a pothole on S. Maple near Warner and Central streets; <br />• suggested Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez be recognized for assistance with <br />Santa Ana's Empowerment Zone designation and former Assemblymember Jim <br />Morrissey for outstanding contributions to the City during his term of office; <br />• inquired as to whether barriers placed on 41h Street to facilitate street reconstruction <br />could be relocated to allow for increased traffic flow and safer turning movements; <br />and <br />• requested the Salgado Center Senior Water Aerobics Program be recognized at a <br />Council meeting. <br />Councilmember Bist: <br />• forwarded kudos from Fred Bella of the Central City Neighborhood regarding the <br />job performance of Public Works employee Mary Gonzales; <br />• reported she had donated a number of books to the Library's upcoming Book Drive <br />and encouraged the audience to do the same; and <br />• commented on the successful re -opening of the Alternative Repertory Theatre in <br />downtown Santa Ana and urged everyone to attend the opening production, "Barrio <br />Everyman." <br />Moor Pro Tern Lutz: <br />• reported his donation of three bags of books to the Book Drive; <br />• reiterated Bist's comments regarding the Alternative Repertory Theatre; and <br />• reported long time Council attendee and former World War II Marine Corps veteran <br />Miles Leach was in the hospital and requested staff send a card and flowers and <br />arrange an appropriate presentation for him. <br />Councilmember McGuigan: <br />• reported she read to students at Jackson School and encouraged the audience to <br />similarly participate by reading aloud to children at local schools; and <br />• requested Recreation and Community Services Executive Director Cleve Williams <br />meet with her to discuss scheduling conflicts at the Downtown Senior Center. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 45 FEBRUARY 1, 1999 <br />T <br />
