COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Christy: <br />• commented on her participation some years ago in a group that advocated reading <br />by mothers to newborn babies; <br />• reported on her recent attendance at the Beethoven exhibit at the Bowers Museum <br />and encouraged the audience to see this educational and informative show; <br />• thanked the City Manager, Public Works Agency Executive Director and <br />Community Preservation Manager Bruce Dunams for the "ride -along" through her <br />ward that increased her knowledge of infrastructure conditions and processes; and <br />• expressed appreciation to the Villa Phoenix Board for their recent letter of <br />commendation. <br />Councilmember Franklin: <br />• expressed appreciation to Jackson School students for their help in making the <br />public service announcement regarding the "Reading City" campaign; and noted <br />the School conducted a successful family reading night program once a month; <br />• reported La Rioja Ranch Market would open soon in Santa Ana and offered a "pick- <br />up" service for seniors with a $25 purchase, and asked that the business be <br />recognized at an upcoming Council meeting; <br />• announced the Floral Park Home and Garden Tour would take place on April 24 <br />and 25 and that additional information could be obtained by calling 543-3218 or <br />contacting the Floral Park web site at http:/www.floralpark.com; <br />encouraged attendance at the Alternative Repertory Theatre production; <br />• noted the 201h Reunion of the Santa Ana High School Class of 1979 would occur in <br />July and that information could be obtained by calling 888-962-5277; <br />• reported receipt of a letter from Irene Chinn thanking staff for assistance with <br />landscaping an Interstate 5 remnant parcel; and <br />• thanked the Mayor for his efforts that led to the attainment of the City's <br />Empowerment Zone designation. <br />Mayor Pulido announced the following upcoming City events and encouraged <br />attendance by the community: <br />February 6 10:00 a.m. <br />February 14 3:00 p.m. <br />February 28 10:00 a.m. <br />February 28 3:00 p.m. <br />Black History Parade <br />2otl Baptist Church <br />Groundbreaking <br />Zoofari Train Dedication <br />CSUF Grand Central Arts <br />Center Opening <br />151h and Main <br />4300 Westminster <br />Santa Ana Zoo <br />Artists Village <br />Downtown Santa Ana <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 46 FEBRUARY 1, 1999 <br />
