COMMENTS <br /> <br />John Wesson thanked the Council for forwarding his complaint regarding apparent Code <br />violations on Harbor Boulevard to staff. (See Minutes page 154.) <br /> <br />Desi Reyes opined that the major utility companies should not be exempted from paying <br />trench cut fees. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Lutz left the meeting at 12:22 a.m. <br /> <br />90.B. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Moreno <br />· requested a meeting be set up with Assembly Member Lou Correa, State Senator <br /> Joe Dunn, and Park/Landscape Design Manager Ron Ono to discuss formation of <br />a park from remnant land parcels at Patricia Lane and the Interstate 5 freeway; <br />· asked that Birch Street in the Sandpointe Neighborhood be slurry sealed as soon <br /> as possible; <br />· commented that he would like to be involved in expressing appreciation to <br /> Assemblymember Lou Correa when the funds are received for improvements at <br /> Delhi Park; <br />· indicated he preferred funding neighborhood street improvements as opposed to <br /> renovating the Sasscer Park fountain; <br />· expressed satisfaction with the additional allocations to capital improvements and <br /> stated his intention to vote in favor of the upcoming budget; and <br />· opined Empowerment Zone advisory committee members should be residents of <br /> the Zone. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuiqan <br />· reported grass growing in the street in the Sandpointe Neighborhood and <br /> reinforced Councilmember Moreno's request for slurry sealing Birch Street; <br />· asked staff to provide an overview of vehicle abatement procedures for public <br /> distribution; and <br />· noted that students from Salgado Center scheduled to participate in an upcoming <br /> Karate Championship Tournament in Hawaii were in need of community support. <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy <br />· reported her attendance at a number of community events where she had <br /> presented city certificates and conveyed the appreciation of the groups for the <br /> recognition; <br />· thanked Police Corporal Andy Mantecon for accompanying her on a Downtown <br /> "walk-around" and indicated concerns expressed to her during the walk were being <br /> addressed; <br />· thanked City Manager David Ream for his rapid response concerning removal of <br /> a Tecate Beer sign across from Mater Dei High School; <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />186 JUNE 7, 1999 <br /> <br /> <br />
