COMMENTS <br /> <br />90.B. COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Moreno <br /> <br />· reiterated his comments <br /> <br /> concerning Ward 1 board and commission <br />appointments, opining the failure to allow him to make appointments stifled input <br />into City processes from "the minority"; <br />asserted study sessions provided an opportunity for the Council to "hide" City <br />business from the public and cited the appointment of the Empowerment Zone <br />Board and a management salary increase as examples of such business; and <br />thanked his constituents for their messages and contacting him for assistance <br />with municipal matters and encouraged calls to his home phone: 714/836-0334. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist <br />· pointed out Councilmember Moreno had not submitted any nominations for the <br /> Council to consider and indicated her willingness to consider any individuals <br /> proposed by Moreno for Ward 1 vacancies; and <br />· congratulated the Wilshire Square Neighborhood on its second successful <br /> summer concert and expressed appreciation to Recreation and Community <br /> Services, Jim Kendrick, Skip Loverin, and Jon Davies for outstanding <br /> organizational assistance. <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy <br />· congratulated the Southwest Senior Center on its successful 10th Anniversary <br /> celebration; <br />· commended the Police Department and Chief Walters on the initiation of Jr. <br /> COP (Children of Pride), a new program to promote good citizenship, <br /> educational achievement and healthy life styles among Santa Ana youth; <br />· reported the City was in the process of responding to a citizen complaint <br /> regarding the condition of the restreoms at Jerome Park; and <br />· encouraged the audience to attend the Santora Building Artists' Open House on <br /> Saturday evening, August 7, 1999. <br /> <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />· enumerated the members appointed to the Empowerment Zone Corporation <br /> Board; <br />· congratulated the Floral Park and Wilshire Square Neighborhoods on their <br /> successful summer concerts; <br />· reported the deteriorated condition of Cabrillo Park had been brought to his <br /> attention at his 20-year high school class reunion and asked staffto investigate <br /> making improvements; and <br />· indicated he had received complaints at the same event that the City's cable <br /> programming did not include Court TV. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 265 AUGUST 2, 1999 <br /> <br /> <br />
