COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Bist <br />· Commented that <br /> <br /> because there are no bus turn outs in the right <br />hand lanes near Main and MacArthur, traffic is severely backed up <br />near the 55 Freeway on ramp. She asked staff to work with OCTA <br />to see if this traffic problem can be resolved <br />Announced that she attended the grand opening of the new House <br />2 Home store and that it was a very impressive store <br />Noted that she has received many compliments from residents <br />relative to the new green bus benches in the City of Santa Ana <br />Commented that there were two recent newspaper articles <br />complimenting progress in the City including one about downtown <br />and a second article listing Santa Aha as the 24th safest City in the <br />United States <br /> <br />Councilmember Solorio <br />· Noted that there is a need for diverse representation on the City's <br /> Boards and Commissions and asked residents interested in serving <br /> on a Board or Commission to notify the City Council <br />· Commented that the County Board of Supervisors approved a <br /> Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Newport Beach to <br /> do an environmental study to keep the curfew at John Wayne <br /> Airport in place, and that the City Council is monitoring this process <br />· Attended the grand opening of FAMSA, a new furniture retail outlet <br /> store in the Downtown Plaza, which is an example of a large <br /> business from Mexico opening in the City <br />· Reported that Santa Ana Unified School District and the Rancho <br /> Santiago Community College District continue to work with the City <br /> of Tustin on trying to acquire land for school facilities. He noted <br /> that the City Council has passed a resolution supporting these <br /> efforts <br /> <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />· Complimented the new joint committee of the City and the Santa <br /> Ana Unified School District on efforts to work together on issues of <br /> school development in Santa Ana <br />· Announced that a group of firefighters from the City installed a <br /> plaque on the clock tower at the Spurgeon Building <br />· Asked staff to meet with state representatives for support in <br /> obtaining a state grant for Santiago Park <br />· Noted that in some instances the old bus benches are not being <br /> removed as the new benches are installed; he asked staff to look <br /> into this situation <br />· Announced that the California Division of Tourism has designated <br /> Main Place as an exclusive California Welcome Center <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 223 JUNE 4, 2001 <br /> <br /> <br />
