COMMENTS <br /> <br />90.B. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Alvarez <br />· Announced that the Washington Square Home Tour would be held <br /> on October 20-21,2001. <br />· Stated that she adopted a dog from the City's Animal Shelter and <br /> encouraged residents to consider obtaining a pet from this facility; <br /> she noted that there were many adoptable animals in the shelter <br /> who will otherwise be put to sleep if responsible pet owners are not <br /> found <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy <br />· Congratulated the men and women of the Santa Aha Fire <br /> Department for coordinating a National Day of Mourning on <br /> September 14, 2001 in commemoration of the heroic efforts of fire <br /> personnel in New York City following the terrorist attacks of <br /> September 11,2001 <br />· Announced that the Orange County Diversity Forum was <br /> sponsoring a meeting to be held in the Police Department <br /> Community Center on October 29, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. to facilitate <br /> open conversations with members of the Arab-American <br /> communities and members of the Council, COP units, and <br /> Neighborhood Associations in Santa Aha <br />· Congratulated Ernesto Ornelas and Brian Gonzalez for winning the <br /> 2001 Golden Glove Junior National Championships <br />· Asked Council to adjourn in memory of Jim Lukens, founder of <br /> Lukens Dairies in Santa Ana, and Sam Mangione, who owned two <br /> McDonald's franchises in the City <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuioan <br />· Noted that she was a member of the Orange County Sanitation <br /> District Board, and that there will be a decision by the Sanitation <br /> District in November 2002 relative to the 301 H waiver for the <br /> Ocean Discharge Permit which expires in June, 2003. She <br /> explained that there will be extensive information gathering by the <br /> Board including scientific studies, review of technology options, and <br /> an analysis of costs, benefits and impacts.
