WS.2. <br /> <br />WORK STUDY SESSIONS <br /> <br />DOWNTOWN SANTA ANA MUSIC FESTIVAL (MOTION REQUIRED) <br /> <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Executive Director Jon "Rip" <br />Ribble presented an update on a proposal by the Santa Ana Jazz and <br />Blues Festival Advisory Board. Highlights of this proposal are as follows: <br /> <br /> The Downtown Santa Ana Music Festival is tentatively planned for <br /> Saturday, July 13, 2002 <br />· Local talent will be showcased <br />· The Festival will have a "taste" component for the first time as <br /> restaurants will be invited to set up booths and sell tastes of their <br /> foods to attendees <br />· The Festival is proposed to take place in the Artists Village <br />· The City's new showmobile will be set up <br />· The Artists Village will be decorated with brightly colored flags, <br /> banners, and balloons. <br />· The proposed hours are from Noon to 9:00 p.m. <br />· The anticipated cost for operating expenses and talent for the <br /> event is $30,000 <br /> <br />Recreation and Parks Commissioner James Kendrick spoke in support of <br />the proposed festival <br /> <br />Council discussion ensued. Mayor Pulido noted that the plans for the <br />event were very vague and more detail would be needed for the Council to <br />make a decision on this matter. If was also suggested by <br />Councilmembers that the Downtown Santa Ana Business Association <br />should be involved in the planning and financing of this event. <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido left the meeting at 7:45 p.m. <br /> <br />WS.3. <br /> <br />FIREWORKS ORDINANCE <br /> <br />Santa Ana Fire Department Chief Marc Martin updated the Council <br />relative to suggestions made by members of the Public Safety Council <br />Committee for changes in the City's Fireworks ordinance. He noted that <br />two areas of concern are the number of booths permitted to sell safe and <br />sane fireworks, and the presence of booths around Centennial Park, the <br />site of the City sponsored annual fireworks display.
