WITH SAME MEMBERS PRESENT <br /> <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />WS.A. <br /> <br />PROCESS FOR NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC PLANNING AND <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL PRIORITIZATION presented by George Alvarez, City <br />Engineer <br /> <br />Highlights of this presentation are as follows: <br /> · Before the City decides where traffic signals are installed: <br /> traffic counts are conducted for pedestrians and vehicles <br /> accident data is reviewed to determine if the problem <br /> can be corrected <br /> signal warrant studies are conducted <br /> · The following factors are included in calculating warrants for a <br /> traffic signal: <br /> Approach speed of major street <br /> Minimum vehicle volume for 8 highest hours <br /> Traffic accidents within one year susceptible to <br /> correction <br /> Minimum pedestrian volume <br /> · If an intersection meets warrants, then it is prioritized for funding <br /> · Priority points are calculated based on: peak hour traffic volume; <br /> three year accident history; peak hour pedestrian traffic count; <br /> proximity to schools <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 345 SEPTEMBER 16, 2002 <br /> <br /> <br />
