NEC Unified Solutions, Inc.
NEC Clarification of Best Effort Support for the Centigram iloice mail for the
City of Santa Ana
In response to your question for clarification of NEC Unified Solutions Best Effort
Support on the Centigram system. As you know the Centigram voice mail has been
manufacturer discontinued since January 2002. Due to the system being
manufacturer discontinued for over five years no upgrade or expansion of the system
is available.
From a technician and engineering support stand point (labor) NEC Unified Solutions
has no problem in continuing our support for the system. Armando, the backup
technicians and our engineering group have a lot of experience with the existing
system and will have no problems with the ongoing support.
The concern we have, and the reason for the Best Effort Support clause, is due to
equipment availability. With the system being discontinued for over five years parts
replacement may become an issue. NEC Unified Solutions works with CommuniTech
Services a 'VAR specializing in the Centigram/Baypoint/NuPoint voicemail systems fo.r
equipment procurement. CommuniTech is focused exclusively on the Mitel NuPoint
product for both current and legacy systems and is Mitel's largest Platinum
Messaging VAR. Mitel Networks, the current manufacturer, recognizes
CommuniTech's expertise and directs all Centigram/Baypoint/NuPoint customer
support inquires for systems that are two releases back from the current version to
CommuniTech.
CommuniTech has informed us that there currently is no problem with equipment
availability for Centigram systems. However due to the fact that no new hardware
has been manufactured for over five years they cannot guarantee equipment
availability through the life of the City of Santa Ana's proposed maintenance
contract. NEC Unified and CommuniTech will do everything possible and exhaust
every avenue available to locate any equipment necessary to maintain the Centigram
system.
Note:
The current voice mail used by the City of Santa Ana, purchased in 1993, was
manufactured by Centigram Corporation. This company later became Baypoint
Innovations and was later bought by Mitel Corporation who changed the name to
NuPoint Messenger.
