Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting $1,988,749 into the <br />Traffic System Management Grant fund revenue account (account no. <br />148-01-5350) and appropriate the funds to expenditure account <br />(account no. 148-651-6631) for the purpose of implementing five Safe <br />Routes to School Grants. <br />2. Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting $596,700 into the <br />Federal Aid Safety Program fund revenue account (account no. 147-01- <br />5350) and appropriate the funds to expenditure account (account no. <br />147-651-6631) for the purpose of implementing two Highway Safety <br />Improvement Program Grants. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On January 2, 2007 staff submitted six Safe Routes to School (SRTS) grant <br />applications and on April 5, 2007 staff submitted nine Highway Safety <br />Improvement Program (HSIP) grant applications for the design and <br />construction of traffic safety improvements such as traffic signals and <br />left-turn arrows. <br />The City received approval of five SRTS and two HSIP grants totaling <br />$2,585,449. The locations and their respective improvements are listed in <br />Exhibit 1. The five SRTS grants are 100 grant funded. The HSIP grants <br />require 10~ City matching funds in the amount of $66,300. Installation of <br />all these improvements is expected in summer 2008. <br />Staff recommends these grant funds be accepted and appropriated so that <br />these needed safety improvements can be completed. <br />20A-1 <br />
