Oximetry is performed while the individual is walking on the treadmill to
monitor oxygenation at peak levels of exercise.
Vision Testin4; The Titmus II Vision Tester is utilized. Far vision, near vision,
binocular vision, stereo depth, color vision, and vertical and lateral vision are the
different parameters tested. This testing is performed both with and without corrective
lenses so uncorrected and corrected results are obtained.
Bodv Composition; The Body Comp Scale by American Weights and Measures is
utilized. This is a bio- impedance device. A 4 page print -out is produced which includes
health risk assessment. Total body fat (percentage and weight); total body water
(percentage and weight); fat -free mass; caloric needs are described.
Medica /Examination Results; Unless we receive a signed release from the
individual we are ethically bound not to release information to anyone other than the
individual. Therefore, all the results are sent to the individual's home along with a
summation of each test by the physician. If abnormal results need to be expeditiously
addressed a telephone call will be immediately placed to the individual for discussion.
The department receives notification as to the individual's health and fitness as it
relates to the performance of their duties as firefighters. Also each firefighter is
encouraged to return to our office to discuss the results of the testing with the
physician at no additional charge.
DMVDocumentation; We provide to either the department or the individual the
DMV Medical Examination Report and the DMV Certificate if required by the employer.
This is required for a Class A or B license, which most firefighters must possess.
In addition to the above we also provide:
1. Flu Vaccine - $35.00
2. PPD (Skin test for exposure to tuberculosis) - $35.00 (discussion of logistics
required)
3. Tetanus toxoid - $35.00
4. Hepatitis -B Surface Antibodies - $35.00
Our medical physicals meet or exceed current OSHA regulations adopted in May 1999,
Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) for respirator use, California Code of Regulations,
Title 8, and NFPA 1582 Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for
Fire Departments, 2003 Edition.
