<br />Assignment) if the employee has not worked in this <br />specific upgrade assignment for a period of 18 <br />consecutive months. The employee shall only be <br />considered to work in a higher classification if <br />such work is duly and specifically authorized by <br />the Police Chief. <br /> <br />2. Special pay differentials, such as shift <br />differential, bilingual pay, special skill pay, <br />etc., being paid to an employee prior to becoming <br />eligible for Temporary Upgrade Assignment Pay, will <br />not be considered in computing the amount of higher <br />pay to which or she is entitled in Subparagraph <br />5.4B1 above, unless the special circumstances upon <br />which said additive is based are also applicable to <br />the Temporary Upgrade Assignment and the employee <br />otherwise meets the criteria established for such <br />pay differential. <br /> <br />3. Temporary Upgrade Assignments which entail moving <br />an employee into a classification represented by an <br />employee unit other than that which represents his <br />or her permanent classification shall not include <br />any change in fringe benefits for the affected <br />employee. <br /> <br />4. While working in a Temporary Upgrade Assignment, an <br />employee will continue to accrue, and have <br />recorded, general, special or normal salary step <br />increases in the employee's permanent position; <br />however, such salary increases will be paid only to <br />maintain the minimum five percent (5%) differential <br />above the salary to which an employee is entitled <br />in his or her permanent position. <br /> <br />18 <br />
