<br />Orange County Youth Commission <br />Santa Ana, California <br /> <br />Anthony Serrano, Sports Club/Program Director, has a certificate in drug/alcohol <br />counseling and has worked as a drug/alcohol counselor for over 8 years. He is also an <br />accomplished boxing coach, having trained our young boxers to win local and national <br />championships. He is enthusiastic about our progranls and thus effective in sharing this <br />enthusiasm with Santa Ana school administrators, thus getting referrals to the boxing. He <br />is a Certified Boxing Trainer by USA Boxing. <br /> <br />EXPERlEN CE: <br /> <br />During the last two years, OCYC has operated these programs: <br /> <br />1. M.A.D. elubs (Making A Difference elubs) <br />We currently operate 17 after-school clubs located at elementary and intermediate public <br />school sites. Programs include mentoring, homework assistance, structure sports (team <br />and individual sports such as soccer, basketball, karate, and wrestling are offered) and <br />character education (The character education lessons teach eight character trains which <br />include: respect, responsibility, integrity, initiative, compassion, and cooperation as well <br />as other qualities that will help the children live out ethical lifestyles and become good <br />employees. We use stories from historical heroes to bring home the lessons.) <br /> <br />MAD Clubs are located at the school sites. This provides a safe after-school option for <br />children, and the comfort to parents knowing their child does not have to leave the school <br />premIses. <br /> <br />2. Santa Ana Boxing elub <br /> <br />3. Skateboard elub <br /> <br />4. Special Events and Activities <br />. Club Kick-Off Event <br />. Family Success Day <br />. Surnrner Camping <br />. Toys for Tots <br />. Community Service Projects <br />such as visiting senior <br />residence homes, collecting <br />pennies for Leukemia <br />Foundation (Boxing Club had <br />a Tsunami Victims Project to <br /> <br />collect shoes and jacket, and <br />graffiti removal projects) <br />. Field trips such as fishing <br />trips, or swim parties, BBQ <br />Picnics, Movie Outing <br />. (The teen boxing program <br />has gone to Big Bear, Magic <br />Mountain and local <br />Museums) <br /> <br />Staff Development <br /> <br />As an organization, OCYC conducts ongoing improvement as demonstrated by staff <br />attendance at youth development conferences and workshops. These seminars focus on <br />various aspects of youth development and provide professional development for program <br />
