Complete Academic Subject - Must complete an assigned academic subject <br />such as English, Math, History, or Science. Academic subject must be at least <br />10 credits. One time incentive only. <br />7. Complete a Job Shadow - Must job shadow an OCCC employee or any other <br />employer for a day in their career of interest. Participant must submit a typed 5 <br />paragraph essay on what they learned. One time incentive only. <br />8. Write an Autobiography - Must complete a typed 10 paragraph autobiography. <br />One time incentive only. <br />9. Keep a Personal Journal - Must maintain a weekly journal for a total of 12 weeks. <br />Journal entries should be at least one page per week. One time incentive only. <br /> <br />Corpsmember Bonus Plan <br />1. $60 Orientation Bonus (pass handbook, safety, tool test, earn CPR/First Aide <br />Certificate, 100 % attendance) <br />2. $50 Attendance Bonus (have a 100% attendance for one month) <br />3. $40 Referral Bonus (refer someone to the OCCC who is hired and remains <br />employed for at least 30 days) <br />4. $50 Certification Bonus (chainsaw, chipper, forklift, and obtaining an <br />ROPNocational Certification) <br />5. $50 Drivers License Bonus (CA class C and/or B) <br />6. $200 Education Bonus (pass the CA High School Exit Exam, and/or earn high <br />school diploma) <br />7. $30 Life Skills Bonus (Life skills packet/on-line training) <br />8. $20 Commendation Bonus (Receive a commendation letter from a project <br />sponsor. <br />9. $ 50 Transition Bonus (Complete OCCC transition class components) <br />10. $ 100 Program Completion Bonus (earn at least 5 of the above 7) <br /> <br />Describe how applicant plans to deliver academic assistance to raise the skill level of <br />youth who are basic skill deficient. <br />The OCCC will use a standardized T ABE test to determine basic math and reading skill <br />levels. All students enrolled into the John Muir Charter School will be issued a practice <br />version of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). The practice test monitors <br />progress towards meeting the high school exit criteria, academic progress, and literacy <br />and numeracy gains which are required by OCCC charter school. If students fail the <br />CAHSEE test they will be required to attend tutoring sessions once a week with a John <br />Muir Charter School Staff and register with an online program (Skill Tutor) which allows <br />students to self tutor and improve math and reading skill levels. <br /> <br />Participants will meet daily with certificated teachers for a total of 10 hours of in-class <br />instruction and tutoring to deliver academic assistance to raise the skill level of basic <br />skills deficient youth. As mentioned above, the OCCC John Muir Charter School <br />delivers its academic instruction knowing that most corpsmembers' basic academic <br />skills are below the 8th grade.
