This provides an excellent
opportunity to recruit program participants throughout the year.

b) Referrals from Communitv Partners - As stated previously, OCCT AC has established
strong partnerships with key agencies in Santa Ana. Some of those include: the Santa Ana
Unified School District, County of Orange, the Santa lUla College, La Familia, Taller San
Jose, Santa Ana Work Center and other Family Resource Centers in Santa Ana (e.g. Corbin
Center).

c) Referrals from OCCTAC families - OCCTAC serves approximately 1,000 students each
year. Five hundred of these students are served in the Santa Ana Unified School District
through our Leaming Academy Programs, and approximately 500 students are served every
month at our Main facility! Arts Center on Broadway. Because of the large numbers of
families that we serve on a regular basis, this gives us the advantage of promoting and
recruiting students for the various programs that we offer our community.

2. Intake/Assessment: An assessment process of each student will takes place prior to the
training at OCCT AC. The first assessment to be conducted is the T ABE assessment. If
the assessment reveals basic skills deficiency, then the student is provided with two other
short literacy tests to measure his/her literacy levels. These tests are the STAR Reading
and HOST Learner link assessments that are also used in the After-School Learning
Academy program. These assessment tools will be conducted as pre and post tests to
measure grov.1h across time. The literacy assessment will help also determine the
placement for those participants interested in being "mentors/tutors", and help guide each
WIA participant in their educational/academic goals.

3. Case Management: OCCTAC's philosophy ofthe program is based on an
interdisciplinary/holistic model that calls for a high interaction between the key staff of the
program and Wi!\. participants. Each student of the program will be linked with an adult
staff mentor (Arts/Technology Instructor). a case manager, a carrier counselor and a
Literacy instructOr. The Case manager will meet individually every week with each
participant to monitor their documentation (e.g., time sheets, etc), assist with job skills
training (e.g., resume writing, etc.), and help youth with job development. The
Arts/Technology Instructors/ Mentors will instruct, coach and mentor the students while
they are on the job every week. The Literacy Instructor will meet individually with each
participant to instruct and coach students with literacy and the Learning Academy program.
The Career Counselor will meet every other week with each participant to guide them
academically and coordinate monthly life-skills sessions with all participants.

4, Program Services/ Parent and Employer Involvement: OCCT AC provides an
interdisciplinary environment that provides an emphasis on tutoring, leadership, mentoring,
support services, counseling and hands-on job training in educational! non traditional jobs
in arts and technology fields.
