<br />b. Tennis and Basketball Court Improvements at Willard Intermediate <br />No Joint-Use Agreement exists between the City and Willard Intermediate. Parks, <br />Recreation & Community Services Agency has been working with the District on a <br />Tennis Program. The City would like to formally enter into an agreement for use of the <br />tennis and basketball courts during after school hours and weekends. This will require <br />resurfacing of the courts and the installation of sports lighting. The cost estimate for <br />these improvements is approximately $333,450. <br /> <br />c. Joint-Use Science/Education Center at the Zoo <br />The SA Zoo Master Plan identifies an Educational Facility at the south-end of the Zoo. <br />The possibility of joint-use funding can open discussion with the SAUSD on exploring <br />the possibility of developing an environmental science and conservation center at the <br />Zoo and expansion of the parking lot. The facility will include classrooms. exhibits and <br />office space for nature and conservation studies. This will provide an opportunity for <br />the City and SAUSD students to be involved in zoological and conservation studies. <br />The cost estimate for these improvements is approximately $2.8 million. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued. <br /> <br />Councilmember Sal Tinajero arrived at 4:45pm -. SANTA ANA UNDERAGE DRINKING TASK FORCE <br /> <br />Dan Gleason made a presentation and introduced Task Force members Leah Fraser- <br />Ersayh and Sandra Viera. Mr. Gleason recommended the following; that City Council adopt <br />a resolution to reduce underage alcohol use by limiting the social avaiiability of alcohol to <br />youth; the training of adults that work with minors, and the scheduling of a Town-Hall <br />meeting campaign addressing underage drinking. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued. <br /> <br />4. SUMMER UPDATE ON PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES <br /> <br />Staff presented a list of past events and programs and future events that will be held during <br />the summer time. Events and programs included Independence Day Celebration, Madison <br />Park Neighborhood Walk-A-Thon/Resource Faire and Concert, Wilshire Square Concert, <br />32nd Annual Antique and Classic Car Show and Concert, Morrison Park Concert, Santa <br />Anita Concert, Youth Expo and Concert and Washington Square Concert. <br /> <br />Staff reported on the various summer programs being offered by Recreation Services, i.e., <br />the new Pathway to Adventure Program, Roar and Snore at the Zoo, Tennis Summer <br />Program, Catalina Program, the Kayaking Program and various programs held at the <br />Recreation Centers. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued <br /> <br />5. YOUTH IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT UPDATE <br /> <br />Staff presented the updated schedule for the Youth and Local Government Program.
