building, safety, and ADA codes; addressing inadequate lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning <br />issues, renovation of the electrical system, front entry, kitchen, restroom, and shower/locker rooms, <br />exterior door replacement, renovation of the gymnasium including replacement of the floor, <br />exterior/interior painting, new flooring and ceiling throughout, re -roofing of the entire building, and <br />replacement of playground equipment. <br />Westminster Rose Center Theater ($150,000): The Westminster Rose Center Theater is a new theater <br />complex that provides programming to the Westminster area. The cultural and community center play <br />host to over 100,000 patrons annually with graduations, banquets and art exhibits. The 419 -seat theater <br />and art gallery and the 500 -seat banquet hall serves as a place where theater and dance students can <br />perform recitals and musicals and where community groups can gather for events. These funds will allow <br />the Rose Center Theater to purchase audio visual equipment, a video projection system, and internal work <br />to upgrade the elevator equipment within the theater. <br />Westminster Senior Center ($40,000): The Senior Center is located within an acre of public open space <br />defined by the Civic Center complex and grassy areas for residents to visit. The Senior Center helps <br />promote the physical and emotional well-being of hundreds of older adults who reside in Westminster by <br />providing a diverse offering of programs with an emphasis on fitness, education, and human services in <br />environments which promote a spirit of dignity. Additionally, the Senior Center provides a variety of <br />tutorial programs for first and second graders, so that both seniors and children are working together for <br />the benefit of each group. This program provides at risk youths with a safe after-school environment. As it <br />is a public senior center, these grants would go toward upgrading the restroom facilities to become ADA <br />compliant and accessible for those with limited mobility. <br />Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council, Learning for Life Outdoor Education Center ($20,000): <br />The Outdoor Education Center is a one -of -a -kind educational and recreational opportunity for all Orange <br />County youth and families. Currently being built on 210 acres of land generously donated to the Orange <br />County Council, Boy Scouts of America, by The Irvine Company — the Outdoor Education Center will <br />provide hands-on educational programs for all school districts and youth serving organizations in Orange <br />County. Endorsing the Outdoor Education Center, Marian Bergeson, Former Secretary of Education for <br />the State of California, has said, "In outdoor, experiential programming, students become more actively <br />involved in the learning process ... This is the foundation for future success." Located next to The Irvine <br />Regional Park in central Orange County the Outdoor Education Center will provide Orange County youth <br />and families a locally accessible gateway to the great outdoors. Among the feature of the Outdoor <br />Education Center are: <br />-A Mining Camp <br />-A Ranch Camp <br />-An Astronomy Camp <br />-Activity Centers <br />-Conference Center and Dining Halls <br />-Training and Educational Centers <br />-An Aquatic center <br />It is estimated that furnishing the various structures and buildings at the camp will cost $947,250. The <br />generous $20,000 grant from the County of Orange will help with this very sizable expense and would be <br />applied to the construction of camp roads. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Page 3 <br />
