1.3. Conduct an informal survey of existing signage. <br />1.4. Evaluate all existing signage categories for design, color, readability, continuity and role in the <br />SA Zoo identity. <br />1.6. Compile findings from the above steps into a written and illustrated evaluation report. <br />Work Products: Illustrated report: Evaluation of Existing Signage. <br />2. Programming and Sign Location Plans <br />2.1. Working on overlays of site drawings and floor plans, develop preliminary sign location plans <br />with typical message inventories. Identify typical and representative sign types. <br />2.2. Organize elements into logical categories for design study with categorical and individual code numbers. <br />2.3. Prepare a visual sign "menu" with small silhouettes of all proposed sign types presented in a common scale. <br />Work Products: Written list of typical proposed project signs by category; preliminary plan <br />drawings showing proposed sign locations keyed to written list; sign types menu. <br />Concept Design & Design Development <br />3.1. Develop conceptual designs for typical elements. Explore a variety of design directions while <br />seeking a visual theme to relate to the campus <br />environment and design philosophy. Present at least three alternative conceptual design themes <br />for review. <br />3.2. Refine best of conceptual designs into developed designs. Present each major item for review. <br />3.3. Establish typography styles and layouts. <br />3.4. Prepare selected scale models of key elements. <br />3.5. Determine scale and relationships to architecture, lighting, landscape and paving elements. <br />3.6. Select preliminary colors and materials for all elements. <br />3.7. Prepare preliminary implementation cost estimates. <br />Work Products: Visual presentations necessary to demonstrate developed design concepts; <br />scale models; preliminary implementation costs. <br />4. Design Drawings and Master Plan Documentation <br />4.1. Prepare design -intent working drawings and specifications necessary for fabrication of all typical <br />signage and graphics program including, elevations, necessary sections and details, sign messages and <br />typical copy layouts for all signage and graphics elements. Prepare detailed location plans for <br />exterior signage elements and for new buildings' signage. <br />4.2. Prepare copy layouts and computer artwork for items where necessary. Prepare typography guidelines <br />for the remainder of items. <br />4.3. Finalize Sign Location Plans and Sign Message Matrix. <br />4.4. Prepare an enduring Signage Master Plan Guidelines Manual incorporating the above, including <br />copywriting, design/layout and reproduction artwork. <br />Work Products: Construction documents required for sign fabricators to bid on and install the signage <br />and graphics elements; artwork to print multiple copies of Signage Master Plan Guidelines. <br />5. Construction Administration — for Selected Projects or Signage categories, to be determined <br />
