Amend the contract with Hardy and Harper, Inc., for asphalt pothole <br />repairs by $100,000 for a total not to exceed $600,000. <br />2. Amend the contract with Hardy and Harper, Inc. for asphalt street <br />maintenance by $688,000 for a total not to exceed $1,800,510. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Public Works Agency's Maintenance Division is responsible for <br />maintaining approximately 400 miles of streets within the City of Santa <br />Ana. Services provided under the asphalt street maintenance contract <br />include the excavation and cold milling of existing roadways, the <br />installation of pavement reinforcing fabric, construction of asphalt <br />concrete pavement, and crack sealing. In addition, the contract provides <br />for water and sewer system maintenance, including trench repair and the <br />adjustment of water valve boxes and manhole frames and covers to grade. <br />Services provided under the pothole repair contract include the repair of <br />all potholes and the repair of all damaged pavement areas not exceeding 50 <br />sq. ft. in area with asphalt overlay. <br />On July 2, 2007, the City Council awarded contracts to Hardy & Harper, <br />Inc., a Santa Ana vendor, for a one-year period with provision for three, <br />one-year renewals for asphalt street maintenance and pothole repair. <br />During the past year, the City has realized good response and service from <br />Hardy & Harper as well as flexibility of service levels, resulting in an <br />increase in the asphalt street maintenance and pothole repairs provided. <br />As needs change, the contractor has the ability to increase or decrease <br />resources without affecting City staff or other programs.
