EXCUSED ABSENCES <br />Motion: <br />Excuse the absence of Councilmember Tinajero from the meeting of <br />June 16, 2008. <br />**END OF CONSENT CALENDAR** <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br />W.S.A. SANTA ANA GREEN -PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY <br />Brian Bist, Member, Environmental and Transportation Advisory <br />Committee (ETAC), gave a brief explanation of the programs promoting <br />sound environmental practices that the City has developed; he also <br />promoted the new webpage on the City's site called "Santa Ana Green". <br />Mary Gonzalez, Projects Manager, Public Works Agency, presented <br />details about some of the City's initiatives. Highlights of this presentation <br />are as follows: <br />• Climate Protection Initiative <br />o Worldwide, cities account for 78% of all greenhouse gas <br />emissions <br />0 300 Mayors in the United States, including Mayor Pulido, have <br />signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement <br />o City committed to meet or beat the Kyoto Protocol targets in the <br />community, through actions ranging from anti-sprawl land-use <br />policies to urban forest restoration projects to public information <br />campaigns <br />o Tips for reducing global warming include: Drive less, be fuel <br />efficient, change your air filter, conserve hot water, insulate your <br />water heater, buy local products, etc <br />Tree Prooram -Tree City USA <br />o The City has established a Tree Board (ETAC), made up of <br />council appointees who provide oversight on tree planting <br />programs <br />o Established a tree care ordinance in 1998 which provides <br />guidelines for maintaining a healthy urban forest <br />o Celebrate Arbor Day annually <br />o Established a Community Forestry Program with an annual <br />budget of a least $2 per capita <br />Green Vehicles -Hybrid and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Program <br />o City established a hybrid and alternative fuel vehicle acquisition <br />policy to be environmentally sensitive in the purchasing and <br />leasing of vehicles for city use <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 172 JUNE 16, 2008 <br />
