WORK STUDY <br />o Priority to replace vehicles with the cleanest and most fuel- <br />efficient vehicles that also meet the needs of the various city <br />departments <br />o City yard has installed two fueling stations -one for hydrogen <br />vehicles and one for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles <br />• Water Conservation <br />o City provides high efficiency toilets and waterless urinals in City <br />Hall, City Yard and Police facilities <br />o Provides weather based irrigation, utilizing sensors that monitor <br />moisture levels, to water only when necessary <br />o Provides high efficiency clothes washers that use less water <br />and perform better <br />o Provides reclaimed water to commercial and industrial users for <br />irrigation or processes <br />o City departments asked to adopt water conservation techniques <br />and equipment <br />o Work with the Municipal Water District of Orange County and <br />Metropolitan Water District of Southern California on a variety of <br />conservation efforts <br />o Educates residents on water conservation programs and <br />opportunities <br />• Recvcling Programs <br />o Examples of programs include: Residential curbside recycling; <br />multi-family recycling; construction and demolition recycling; <br />certified recycling centers; used motor oil and oil filter program; <br />City Employee battery recycling; composting; household <br />hazardous waste; and Sharps/Needles recycling <br />• Build Green Initiatives <br />o Planning and Building Agency waives solar permit fees <br />o Solar plan check services are free <br />o Solar building inspection services are free <br />o Field verification of energy-efficient heating <br />o Special counter window established for inspections <br />Following the presentation, Council discussion ensued. Councilmembers <br />were very impressed with the varied activities and programs the city has <br />developed to promote the environment. Some members asked city staff <br />to look at creative ways to promote the City's efforts in addition to the web <br />page.
