A survey will be
developed to gather baseline data in a number of areas and the same data will be gathered at the end of the program
to determine if behaviors and attitudes have been impacted. Data will be gathered on how much participants know
about the outdoor natural resources in Santa Ana, including where to go, what is available to them, what the
requirements for use are, and any other specific regulations or information they need to know in order to effectively
utilize those resources. Questions will be asked about how many times they have visited outdoor areas and how
often they visit throughout the year. the survey will explore the types of activities participants engage in during their
leisure time and their attitudes about health and fitness. The survey will also gather self reports about quality of life
such as health and well being, positive behaviors, etc.
Another area of qualitative measurement will focus on the skill participants learn through the program and how they
use those skills on their own to access outdoor activities. this will be done with the use of pre and post evaluations for
specific curriculum-based skill development activities as well as through observation of application of skills during
outdoor activities. For example, participants might take a written test on how to use a compass and then they will
demonstrate how to use a compass in the outdoors after training.
A third and final area of gathering information will focus on what participants think about the program; if they liked it,
what they would like to see change; what additional activities they would like to engage in; what they would want
more of or less of; etc. in an attempt to fine-tune and continuously improve the program.
Exhibit A-1
Page ~of~
~aF~
