REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />OCTOBER 6, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />CONTRACT AWARD FOR HEATING, <br />VENTILATION, AND AIR- <br />CONDITIONING UNITS <br />(BID SPEC. 08-058) <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 15~ Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Kaiser Sales Corporation for the purchase of two <br />heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning units in an amount not to <br />exceed $54,844.75. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On November 5, 2007, the City Council accepted an $11.07 million Urban <br />Area Security Initiative grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This initiative was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of urban <br />areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have adequate <br />equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from acts of <br />terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local agencies for <br />equipment purchases approved and authorized by the Office of Disaster <br />Preparedness. <br />The Santa Ana Police Department would be front-line responders in any <br />terrorist-related incident within the Santa Ana urban area. On July 7, <br />2008, the City Council awarded contracts for the purchase of video <br />surveillance equipment to upgrade to a technologically advanced perimeter <br />security camera system. The existing computer and radio service room will <br />be expanded to house the security camera system upgrade and requires two <br />new heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) units to support the <br />expansion. <br />22F-1 <br />
