Case managers maintain a minimum l -hour/week per participant for case <br />management. Additional time is allowed for participants requiring more urgent or <br />special services. <br />Mentors maintain weekly interaction with participant for at least 2 hours/per month <br />over a 12 -month period. Mentors usually meet with no more than 2-3 mentees per <br />week. <br />5. What services will be offered after youth exits the program? <br />Project RYTMO will provide the following services to exited _youth: <br />• Follow-up services 30 and 60 days after exit. Thereafter, each quarter up to 12 - <br />months after exit. <br />• Job Placement services: through our newly formed association with companies such <br />as NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) ASCAP (American Society of <br />Composers Authors and Publishers), NARAS (National Association of Recording <br />Arts & Sciences), and others, exited youth will have access to valuable job placement <br />referrals through these nationally recognized associations. <br />• Internet support: Our newly formed relationship with youngjobs.com. enable exited <br />participants to access the internet for jobs related to the music industry. We have <br />established a unique relationship with this company to enhance it's website with <br />music industry jobs and internships specifically for RYTMO students. <br />• Adult Mentoring: music industry and music technology mentors will provide <br />continual career guidance and support as youth transition to job opportunities, even <br />after exited from the program. <br />C. Goals / Objectives and Performance Levels <br />1. How will service(s) be deemed necessary? List tool(s) to be used for <br />assessment of participant's basic skill levels. Describe pre and post testing, primary <br />and secondary goal determination. <br />According to the National Association for Music Education, music and arts programs <br />help our youth and communities in real and substantial ways. A recent study <br />conducted by the City of Huntington Park, CA, found that middle school Hispanics <br />who had a positive artistic and/or musical outlet in their communities were less likely <br />to be involved in destructive expressions, such as tagging and graffiti., Project <br />RYTMO has based its program upon the following four categories of success: <br />Success in society: students who participated in band or orchestra reported the <br />lowest lifetime and current use of all substances (alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs) - <br />Texas Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse Deport, Houston Chronicle, <br />January, 1998. <br />Success in school: Data from the National Education Longitudinal Study of 1998 <br />showed that music participants received more academic honors and awards than <br />non -music students, and that the percentage of music participants receiving A's, <br />A's/B's and B's, was higher than the percentage of non -participants receiving <br />those grades.
