Approve a Funding Analysis with a total estimated construction cost <br />of $11,226,000. <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MAY 4, 2009 <br />TITLE: <br />CONTRACT AWARD FOR BRISTOL <br />STREET WIDENING FROM MCFADDEN <br />AVENUE TO PINE STREET <br />(PROJECT NOS. 06-1500, 07-3206, <br />AND 09-3521) <br />DISCUSSION <br />Bristol Street is the north-south corridor designated as a major <br />arterial highway in the City's Circulation Element of the General Plan. <br />The widening of Bristol Street between Warner Avenue and Memory Lane is <br />a long-term project that will be constructed in several phases. This <br />project includes the segment between McFadden Avenue and Pine Street <br />(Exhibit 1). Overhead utility lines were placed underground in 2008 in <br />accordance with the Bristol Street Specific Plan adopted by the City <br />Council in 1993. <br />With this project, Bristol Street will be widened from two lanes to <br />three lanes in each direction with a landscaped median. The widening <br />will also provide bus turnouts in both directions, enhanced parkway <br />landscaping, sound walls adjacent to the remaining parcels and alleys, a <br />new water main, sidewalk, and curb and gutter. Once completed, these <br />improvements will enhance the ride quality, surface drainage, and visual <br />appearance of Bristol Street. <br />23C-1 <br />
