Orange County Conservation Corps <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board -The Youth Service Provider Network <br />Request for Proposal <br />PY 2009/2010 <br />and discuss participant's academic performance. If participant is found to be basic skill deficient and <br />involved in ongoing tutoring sessions, the Program Specialist will meet with the tutor monthly to <br />identify the participant's progress towards improving their basic skill levels. For participants who are <br />high school graduates and enrolled into the OCCC Corps-2-Career class, the Program Specialist will <br />monitor that participant is making progress towards completing all required components to the OCCC <br />Corps-2-Career class. <br />For participants that are lacking in any of the above components, the Program Specialist and <br />appropriate staffwillmeet to discuss and strategize a plan to help participant succeed. To motivate <br />and encourage participants to complete various components to the OCCC program, the OCCC will use <br />incentives, the OCCC bonus plan, quarterly merit raises, promotions, and quarterly recognition events. <br />The following policies have been implemented for program year 2009-2010 as tools in the <br />management of performance: <br />Incentive Procedures: <br />ELIGIBILITY: <br />1. To request and receive incentives, an individual must be WIA eligible and actively <br />enrolled with the Orange County Conservation Corps (OCCC). <br />2. As it is with all WIA services, incentive is not an entitlement. <br />AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS: <br />1. Incentives are delivered contingent upon availability of funds and given on a first <br />come, first serve basis. <br />2. Incentives should not exceed a value of $40.00 per completed component. Participant <br />will have the option of choosing a gift card from a specific category (i.e., restaurant, <br />entertainment, retail, etc.) <br />Incentives <br />1. NA/AA Meetings -Must attend four (4) meetings at the OCCC. One time incentive only. <br />2. Skills Tutor -Participants whom have not passed the California High School Exit Exam <br />(CASHEE) must complete a total of 4 hours of skills tutoring per month. If participant has <br />completed all required credits and is only pending the CASHEE, participant must complete a <br />total of 8 hours per month. One time incentive only. <br />3. 9"'Grade Skill Level - If found basic skill deficient during initial TABE assessment participant <br />must increase reading and math to a 9"'grade level on TABE test. One time incentive only. <br />4. Read Book -Must read a 100-page book with progress being monitored by participant's <br />Teacher or Case Manager. Some exceptions maybe made for books less than 100 pages such <br />as the Ed De Jesus workbook "Makin It", etc. One time incentive only. <br />5. Complete Academic Subject -Must complete an assigned academic subject such as English, <br />Math, History, or Science. Academic subject must be at least 10 credits. One time incentive <br />only. <br />6. Complete a Job Shadow -Must job shadow an OCCC employee or any other employer for a <br />day in their career of interest. Participant must submit a typed 5 paragraph essay on what <br />they learned. One time incentive only. <br />7. Write an Autobiography -Must complete a typed 10 paragraph autobiography. One time <br />incentive only. <br />8. Keep a Personal Journal -Must maintain a weekly journal for a total of 12 weeks. Journal <br />entries should be at least one page per week.
