• Contributing to the apprehension of wanted suspects and the recovery of <br />stolen vehicles <br />• Reducing the amount of time required by an officer to issue a traffic citation <br />and a report (more important, increasing the time available for patrol) <br />• Reduction in the time spent to download data from citations and reports into <br />our Records Management System (RMS) <br />• Eliminating duplication of data entry by records department and the courts <br />• Improving the accuracy and legibility of citations <br />The goal in providing additional funding for our Police Service Aide program is <br />• To preserve jobs <br />• Free up the time of patrol officers so they can be available to respond to <br />emergency calls for service <br />• Reduce response times to emergency calls for service <br />Activities: (which can be started and completed expeditiously, and in a manner that <br />maximizes job creation and economic benefits) <br />New Technology <br />• Traffic Officers will be able to obtain data from the magnetic stripes on the <br />violators driver's licenses and from bar -coded Vehicle Identification <br />Numbers (VIN) <br />• Traffic Officers will be able to check the license numbers and Vehicle <br />Identification Numbers (VIN's) against local, state and regional databases to <br />identify outstanding warrants for arrest <br />• Traffic Officers will be able to print tickets on -site using the automatically <br />captured data <br />■ Traffic Officers will be able to take simple traffic related reports in the field <br />■ All vehicle and personal data obtained in the field will be immediately <br />downloaded into our RMS system and will not require support personnel to <br />do so at a later time <br />Police Service Aide Program funding <br />• Police Service Aides will continue to assist in everyday tasks of taking reports <br />for non - violent crimes and other miscellaneous duties usually handled by <br />patrol officers <br />• Reduce the amount of reports taken by Patrol Officers and allow them to be <br />more available for emergency calls for service <br />• Reduce response times for Patrol Officers responding to emergency calls for <br />service <br />2009- F1801 -CA -SB Page 11 of 61 <br />
